Monaco. The fifties. Jeanine Marissal, a young visionary biochemist discovers the remarkable healing properties of thermal plankton springing from its exceptional biological affinity with our skin. ​

Jeanine Marissal believed in enhancing skin life natural processes and hence patented the use of thermal plankton in skincare products.​

Jeanine Marissal lays the foundations of what is still the DNA of the brand: products based on natural ingredients that provide effective solutions to women’s problems while also being enjoyable to use.​

1974 A STATE-OF-THE-ART CENTER,​ ROYALLY HONORED

Following the acquisition by L’Oréal, Biotherm inaugurated a cutting-edge research center and production plant in the heart of Monaco.​

Her Serene Highness Princess Grace of Monaco inaugurates the brand’s new seven-storey​ headquarters in the principality.

​Florence Arthaud sailing the Route du Rhum

1982​, A WOMAN AT THE HELM

Biotherm expresses its love of Water by sponsoring French sailor, Florence Arthaud.​

​This photo is of Florence on the boat Biotherm II on the Route du Rhum in 1982.

8 years later she becomes the first woman to win the grueling race.​

​Florence Arthaud exemplifies the history of strong women at Biotherm - she undertook her first transatlantic trip when she was just 18 years old.

​In 2012 we created the Biotherm Water Lovers program to work toward a better future for our oceans and to raise awareness about the threat of ocean plastic pollution for consumers.​​

​By partnering with world-class experts and NGOs like Mission Blue, Tara Ocean Foundation, and Surfrider Foundation Europe, Water Lovers supports work that preserves at-risk aquatic areas, researches pressing oceanic topics, and educates communities about ocean preservation.

Oceanographic Institute of Monaco Headquarters

2021​ A TEMPLE FOR THE SEA

Biotherm becomes the major Executive Partner of the Oceanographic Institute of Monaco. The brand’s financial support will contribute to assisting Oceano’s actions for the oceans, mobilizing its global network of experts and decision-makers, and raising public awareness of the fragile situation of the ocean today.​
